Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to calm a patient during a dental procedure. It’s also known as “sleep dentistry,” but that’s not always completely accurate. There are varying levels of sedation – with most of which you’re still awake – to accommodate levels of anxiety or more intensive procedures. Sedation can range from nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to general anesthesia.
