Post-Op Instructions

Schedule an appointment
The post-op experience is different for everyone. However, there are a few things that everyone tends to experience. This includes bleeding, swelling, and some discomfort. Here are a few tips for taking care of yourself after oral surgery:
  • Minimize exercise and physical exertion for a few days, or as directed
  • Keeping swelling down with ice
  • Avoid brushing and flossing the surgical site
  • Drink plenty of fluids (without a straw)
  • Stick to soft, approved foods
  • Rinse mouth with warm salt water 24 hrs after operation

What Can I Eat After My Procedure?

After your procedure, you’ll need to be gentle on your teeth and gums. You may be restricted to only soft foods. This’ll include Jell-O, smoothies (with seedless fruit), and other foods that don’t require applying pressure to the operation site. Should you have any questions about what you can and cannot eat, do not hesitate to ask!

Will I Be in Pain After Surgery?

You may feel some discomfort after surgery. This is completely normal! Dr. Montamarta and his staff will talk to you about pain medication and caring for your mouth in detail. Depending on the severity of the procedure, you will either be able to take over-the-counter pain medications or may even be prescribed a medication.
